My favorites of the examples are: "To reach our community, impact our nation, and touch the world." "Our mission is to lead ordinary people to extraordinary life in Christ." That would be neat to write something moving like those.
It needs to be something that moves or motivates people in the church.
One thing that I forgot to mention in the meeting is that this mission statement is going to be something that defines our church. Many in the community have a negative impression of the church, which is sort of inescapable when you have a church as old as our church. Yet, many seem to define the church by what it has been, whether real or perceived. When you ask people about our church, some say, "Well, this happened 30 years ago...", or something to that effect. Some still know it only from the past, or what people still say today.
This mission statement will define our church by what it is today, and how we will endeavor to reach our vision of what God wants for us to be for Him.
